COVID-19: What are we doing about it?

You will all know that President Cyril Ramaphosa announced last night that South Africa, collectively, must take measures to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), in addition to those being implemented by the state.

COVID-19 has the potential to be a serious threat to our elderly and other at-risk groups, so Bryanston Sports Club is heeding the call:

  1. Hygiene: Club Manager Jerry Fraser and his team are implementing additional measures to ensure Club hygiene standards remain high: hand sanitiser is available in key areas, and the Club has altered staff responsibilities to focus more on hygiene and cleaning.

  2. Bowls: The section will take its cue from JBA with regards to the cancellation of planned tournaments. At this time, we have received no official announcement, but Chairperson Ian McKenzie will keep everyone informed regarding tournaments later in May.

  3. Squash: The 2020 league has been postponed until after Easter. The revised date has yet to be released. Details will follow as they are announced.

  4. Tennis: There are no tournament plans, so Tennis will continue.

  5. Road Running: No major events planned. If anything changes, we will let you know.

  6. Social: President Ramaphosa stipulated that gatherings of more than 100 people are prohibited. We must bear this in mind, particularly in the bar and main hall. Club management will assess activities involving large groups.

If any members have additional, constructive ideas, feel free to contact Chairman Warren Davies or Jerry directly.

Warren Davies:

Jerry Fraser:

These are unique times, calling for more than our usual levels of cooperation and understanding – and a healthy dose of patience. Right now, the sensible thing to do is to keep informed, take the necessary precautionary measures and act responsibly.

Should anything change significantly in the coming days, we will issue further communication.

Thank you for your understanding.
