Peter Malan remembered in private rose-planting ceremony at BSC

Three generations of the Malan family - wife Jenny, daughter Angela, and granddaughter Allegra - planted the rose "South Africa" at the Bryanston Sports Club bowling greens at a private ceremony in memory of the late Peter Malan.

“It’s a fitting remembrance of the happy hours Peter spent with his many friends at the bowling greens, both as a club member and green keeper," said Jenny.

Peter was a founder member of the BSC bowls section in 1977, and a member of the club for 43 years. He played in the very-first team to represent the club at a national tournament and later was a member of the team that won a Zimbabwean national tournament. He served the club in various capacities for many years, and was president of the main club for a three-year period from 1994 to 1996.

Peter was elected an Honorary Life Member in 2010 for his distinguished and dedicated service to the club.

Jenny, who served as Lady Captain in the years when there were separate Lady’s and Men’s committees, described the ceremony as, “A very special occasion made even better by our granddaughter, Allegra, gathering butterflies on the yellow rose, 'South Africa''.”
