Bryanston Sports Club win Gold and Bronze at the Men’s SA Bowls Nationals

For the first time in the Bryanston Sports Club’s proud fifty-year history the bowls team won Gold in the men’s fours at the South African Nationals in May 2022. The winners beat their colleagues by one shot, 22-21 in the semi-finals. Ian Mckenzie, skip of the winning team, said “It was a pity we had to meet our fellow club team in an exciting, closely fought semi-final.”

The Gold medallists were: Ian Mckenzie, Prince Neluonde, Greg Valjalo, Kelvin Theunis, and the very young Wilson Malobolo. Bronze medals were awarded to Tony Mazaris, Victor Siphali, Michael Mashabela, and Lloyd Leppan.

Sipho Velempini, president of the bowls section commented: “We’re immensely proud of the club’s magnificent achievement of winning Gold and Bronze in the SA Bowls Nationals. The winners displayed grit, determination and big match temperament winning their quarterfinal, semi-finals, and final by one shot.”
