BOWLS: JBA Presidents Cup
What a special weekend it was for the Bryanston Sports Club, we were
honoured to host the JBA Presidents Cup, that and the Masters are the
premier events of the Bowling calendar. The weather was great, and the feel
of spring was definitely in the air.
Twenty four bowlers took to the greens for two grueling days. BSC was lucky
enough to have six players out of the twenty four, what an achievement. In
the ladies section there was Joyce Velempini and Ashleigh Silk. Both of them
doing very well. In the men's section we had, Sipho Velempini, Lethabo
Mathibela, Michael Mashabela, Jorge Ruiz-Mesa. All stars in their own
rights.
At the end of the tournament we had Joyce Velempini taking the silver medal
in the Ladies and Jorge Ruiz-Mesa taking silver in the men's section, and
that's not all, Michael Mashabela was awarded the Bronze Medal. Well done to
all of you, three medals in the Presidents cup is quite an achievement. To
Ashleigh Silk, Lethabo Mathibela and Sipho Velempini who also did us proud
by being selected and playing in this tournament.
Now not forgetting this kind of event cannot succeed without hard work in
the background. Thanks to Barbara Mazaris and her team who made this all
possible.
To Club Manager, Pat Carolin and his catering staff, well done, the food was
great as usual on both Saturday and Sunday. Players were greeted by the
aroma of bacon and egg rolls and Boerewors rolls on Saturday and these went
down a treat. Then on Sunday they did one better, bacon and egg rolls,
Chicken Prego Rolls and Boerewors rolls. Thanks to Chef Shepherd. and his
assistant Lendelani.
Then there was the Bar staff, who always work very hard at the end of an
event such as this.
Not forgetting the Ladies and gents who give up their days to sell tickets
and make sure al the order for meals are perfect, Maria and Juliet, John and
Wendy, thank you so much.
Now for the Bowling team of Nancy, Victor, Thomas, they are always there in
whatever capacity is asked of them.
Last but not least the Umpires, and Markers and JBA officials and to our own
Chairman Tony Mazaris for making this an event to remember.
