Minutes of the inaugural meeting of the Bryanston Sports Club
Held at the Scout Hall on Wednesday 4th October 1972 at 8 p.m.

1 Mr de Vries took the chair and declared the meeting open
2 He gave a brief outline of the various sporting activities which would eventually be available. He also outlined the purpose of the Club, namely :
To promote and foster all branches of sports and past times by constructing, inaugurating or promoting sub-sports club.
3 FORMATION OF BRYANSTON SPORTS CLUB
The chairman pointed out that the purpose of the meeting was to decide whether a club of this nature should be formed. He said that the Sandton Town Council had agreed to provide two tennis courts now. The various other sporting facilities to be provided later. The tennis courts were to be built on the seven acres of ground near the Bryanston Library. The rent per court would be R12.00 per annum. In the event of a club house being erected on the erf the lessee shall be liable for a further rental calculated at 1 1/2 % per annum of the capital costs.
The meeting agreed unanimously to go ahead with the formation of the Bryanston Sports Club
4 NOMINATION OF THE COMMITTEE
The following nominations for the committee were made :
Mr. B. Deans, Mr. M. de Vries, Mrs. J. Findlay, Mr. .A Gel,
Mr.F.Martin, Mr. F. Brown, Mr. D. Netcher.
As no further nominations were put forward the above mentioned were elected to the committee.
Proposed by Mr. C. Netcher: Seconded Mrs. L. Campbell.
5 LEASE AGREEMENT (Mr. B. Deans read out the lease agreement)
[1] The Lessor lets and Lessee hires two courts, called the property
For period of 9 years and 11 months at a rental of R12.00 per court per annum.payable in advance.
[2] Should a club house be built, further rental of 1 ½% per annum on total capital cost be payable. Paid monthly in advance.
Also to apply to any future alterations/additions.
[3] In the event of additional courts being built the same above conditions will apply.
[4] Lessor liable for all other improvements,including maintenance of the buildings and fencing of courts.
[5] Lessee liable for maintenance of surface and sub-surface of the courts. Shall supply tennis nets and balls.
[6] Lessee liable for water, electricity, sewerage and refuge costs
[7] No buildings or structures, whether temporary or permanent may be erected
[8] The Lessee to keep the tennis courts, club house and immediate surrounding areas clean and free of debris.
[9] Lessee shall be liable for any damage caused by its members.
[10] May not cede or assign this agreement or any rights under this agreement. Sublet of the club- house or Tennis Courts may occur only with the Lessor`s approval.
[11] All notices are deemed to be properly served at the address of the Lessee and by registered post.
[12] Should the Lessee fail to comply with any provisions of this agreement, the Lessor is entitled to cancel and immediately take possession of the property including all improvements.
[13] The Lessor and Lessee reserve the right at any time to cancel this agreement by giving thee months written notice.
The meeting considered the agreement very reasonable and it was agreed that the committee sign the Agreement with the Town Council of Sandton
Mr. B. Deans said that he felt that the Sandton Town Council had been very fair in that they had agreed to the Club having small commitments now so that the Club could raise its own funds for improvements later
6 CONSTITUTION AND RULES
Mr. De Vries mentioned that the Constitution was based on those of the Standard Bank Sports Club.
It was stated that the Sandton Town Council`s Legal Advisor had accepted the Constitution.
Mr Deans then read through the Constitution.
[a] There were some queries arising, namely ;
When would the courts be ready and would a Club House built ?
The chairman replied that courts should be ready end October/November. A club House should be ready at the same time.
He would contact Sandton Town Council {S T C} and notify members re-above.
[b] What are the costs per annum and numbers to make it practicable ?
Mr. De Vries replied --- In region of R119.00 and that 50 members would be required.
[c] Would the club have any say in the design of the Club House ?
Unfortuneately the designs have already been passed.
Lahana sports has agreed a 10% discount to the Club and members
Mr. De Vries thank all present and asked committee to stay behind a while.
